Data Retention — 7 Years
PHFSA 1998 requirement to retain patient medical records for a minimum of 7 years.
PHFSA 1998 and its subsidiary regulations require private hospitals and clinics to maintain patient medical records for a minimum of 7 years from the date of last treatment, or 7 years after a minor patient reaches 18 years of age. MOVO-X implements automated retention policies: records are flagged for review at 7 years, anonymisation is offered as an alternative to deletion for analytics purposes, and deletion is fully audited. The system prevents accidental early deletion of records in the retention period.
Malaysian Context
Malaysian courts have heard cases where missing clinical records (deleted before 7 years) resulted in adverse judgements against hospitals. Compliant retention is both a legal and risk management requirement.
